Writing Tip: Don't Discard Ideas

Have you ever felt it? You begin writing the first sentence, and then the next, then the third, the fourth... and then... nothing. You're stuck. You don't know what to write anymore. You read back the first few sentences you have written and then you realize it's not that good. So you delete them all and start from scratch again.

The problem with that is you'll be back to where you were 5 or so minutes ago: staring at a blank document with the cursor blinking, waiting for an input from you. You wasted 5 minutes of your life.

Why not save the idea? Why not compile all these "rejected" thoughts and put them all in a single document. this way, when you need fresh ideas, you have something to look at where you can gather your thoughts. You can also pick up where you left off on some ideas because it is likely that you'll have a clearer mind when you read it again.

So when you get stuck at some point, don't give in to frustration. Don't erase that typewritten attempt of a novel. Save it.
